A Rocha Nigeria is a Christian conservation organisation working to protect wildlife, restore ecosystems, and support communities across Nigeria to live and thrive sustainably.

We combine science, community engagement, and practical action to tackle some of the country’s most pressing environmental and social challenges.

Our work spans conservation, research, environmental education, sustainable livelihoods, and conflict-sensitive peacebuilding. Through our conservation programmes, we protect key habitats and biodiversity while restoring landscapes that have been degraded over time.

Our research, including ongoing ecological studies at the Rennajj Fish Farm wetlands in Jos and across the Benue-Basin Forests, strengthens understanding of Nigeria’s unique ecosystems and informs evidence-based solutions.

People and communities are at the centre of what we do. We work closely with churches, schools, and communities living near conservation sites to raise awareness, inspire behavioural change, and encourage practical action. Through trainings, guided nature experiences, bird-watching activities, and interactive learning programmes, we help people connect meaningfully with the natural world.

We also support sustainable livelihood initiatives that create environmentally friendly income opportunities and reduce dependence on practices that harm ecosystems.

Recognising the links between environmental pressures and local tensions, A Rocha Nigeria integrates conflict reduction and peacebuilding into its work. In communities affected by farmer-herder conflict and resource pressure, we facilitate dialogue and promote collaborative, climate-smart solutions that reduce competition over land and water while building long-term resilience.

As a faith-based organisation, we are shaped by Christian values of integrity, care, and stewardship. Our work is inclusive, science-driven, and community-centred, and we partner with a wide network of local and international organisations – including the global A Rocha family, Bread for the World, and the A.G.
